Google Fighting: PVR vs. DVR

Ever tried Google Fight? Just enter two search terms and it tells you who’s the winner after watching a funny animation of two stick figures fighting.

I decided to see which term is more popular: DVR or PVR. Here are the results:

PVR: 14,200,000
DVR: 27,400,000

That’s a solid win for DVR. But these initials can be about anything, not just about personal video recorders.

So I tried it without using abbreviations:

“personal video recorderâ€?: 964,000
“digital video recorder”: 1,370,000

This time it was a much closer battle. I’ll check back within a few months to see how this changes over time.

In case you’re wondering, I’ll be using both terms interchangeably here. Which term do you prefer? DVR or PVR? And why?
