LG’s HDTV Comes with HD PVR
Since I’m looking to buy an HDTV, I was searching the Internet and came across an interesting product. It’s a 42″ HDTV with a built-in PVR. Cool, eh? It’s a great way to get full HD functionality without needing to buy a Series 3 Tivo, or choose the HD DVR from your cable or satellite provider.

According to the LG website, it comes with a built-in 160 GB hard drive and uses TV Guide’s electronic program guide to schedule recordings. You can pause and rewind live TV, just like any PVR, but one review said that the interface isn’t as intuitive as Tivo’s.
The MSRP is $2,299.95 which is pricey, but not a bad mark-up for a built-in PVR. Especially considering that a Series 3 Tivo would cost another $800, including monthly service fees.
Apparently, LG’s HDTV was released in July 2006, so it’s possible that the price has come down. A search of the model number (LG 42LB1DR) on Google shows that Best Buy is selling it for $1,709.
Tip: Watch a fancy demo and interactive site from LG.
Bonus Tip: CNet has a review which says that the picture quality is disappointing and its DVR has just one tuner.
